Death After Dark

"What happened to her?" the man asked as he examined the bloodied body.
"We only found two perfect holes in her neck, like a bite mark," the agent replied.
"Do we have an identification?"
"Yeah, she's the woman that won the Pulitzer last week."
"Oh, you mean that article that proves why vampires don't exist?"

The rain

It is the hour of rain. It's approximately 5:50 pm as I sit in the glow of the computer screen, writing whatever should happen to crawl across my mind, listening to the gentle tapping of rain outside the window. The baby kitten that my brother brought home today is prancing around my feet; it's minature body something amazing compared to the full-grown frame of our two year old cat. The girl from down the street has entered my lair of confinement, throwing out questions of confuzzling math and offers of fresh, crisp, tacos. I don't accept. My warm kitchen has invited me in for delicious homemade pizzas. I decide, in surrender, that I must log off the computer. Why? Because, there aren't any windows down here. I don't really know if it's raining.
